Tech Center

The internet of things is increasingly making every aspect of our lives more connected and nowhere is that more evident than in the automobile. The Portland International Auto Show (PIAS) connects attendees with the future in the all-new Tech Center. The PIAS runs from Thursday, Jan. 28 – Sunday, Jan. 31 at the Oregon Convention Center.

Connectivity within the car and the car via smart devices is becoming more commonplace in today’s automobile, and certain autonomous features, particularly in the area of functional safety, have been in place for some time – think adaptive cruise control. This technology and more are some of the things that show attendees will see in the Tech Center.

“The Tech Center evolved from our Eco Center,” said Jeff Fishback, show director of the PIAS. “We still count the display of environmental technology as an important aspect of our show, but the car of today features technology that is much more integrated. You can literally monitor your fuel economy with some apps today. It’s important that we educate our attendees about these types of technologies as they evaluate all the vehicles on the show floor. ”

The Tech Center will cover the spectrum of automotive technology, including environmental, like alternate fuel tech shown by the Columbia Clean Cities Coalition, and electric vehicles. Infotainment and apps will be on display, too. The Jaguar / Land Rover Open Software Technology Center will be on site to showcase the latest tech in its cars along with a drive simulator. Audi will also be on hand showing its virtual dash TT and future driverless parking, while Volvo will show the technologically advanced XC90.  OreGo, Oregon’s alternative road-funding program, will demonstrate its connectivity and road usage app, in partnership with Azuga.

“We invite our attendees to the future of the automobile in the new Tech Center,” concluded Fishback.

Great Outdoors

The Great Outdoors exhibit traditionally located in the concourse below the Portland Ballroom, has grown in popularity to the point where show organizers felt that it deserved a spot on the main show floor for the first time ever. The exhibit will be located in the back of Hall A in the Oregon Convention Center during the show’s run from Thursday, Jan. 28 – Sunday, Jan. 31.

The Great Outdoors features outdoor gear and vehicle accessories that can make any outdoor adventure possible. Rack Attack, provider of accessories to carry nearly any type of outdoor sporting equipment, has outfitted several vehicles to show the possibilities of escaping to your next adventure.

Speaking of which, Next Adventure, purveyors of nearly everything needed to enjoy a backyard sleepover to trekking the wilderness, will be showing the latest in hi-tech outdoor gear, plus they will be joining with Rack Attack in a drawing for a Thule cargo box loaded with outdoor gear from Next Adventure. You can also enter to win the use of a new Audi for a ski weekend with lift tickets, courtesy of Audi of Beaverton. 99West Trailers will also be located in The Great Outdoors, featuring the latest toy haulers.

On Sunday – Jack Hoffman, also from the Gold Rush TV, show will be on site to sign autographs.
